Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedics is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to oversee a study on head impacts in collegiate football players and facilitate ongoing testing in the Badger Athletic Performance program at the University of Wisconsin. A primary responsibility is to coordinate the instrumented mouthguard protocol study, which is a collaborative, multi-site study in partnership with the NFL and Biocore. The coordinator will be chiefly responsible for consenting and enrolling athletes in this research study and ensuring study endpoints are met including research follow-ups, which requires presence at football practices and some games. This coordinator will also assist with routine athlete monitoring in Badger Athletic Performance, including collecting and entering data, generating reports, monitoring data quality, and contributing to the overall goals of the group. A high degree of initiative and attention to detail is required to be successful in this position.

The coordinator may also assist with maintaining IRB approval, providing data to study sponsors, and dissemination of research findings. The coordinator will work closely with the Badger Athletic Performance and UW Division of athletes staff.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates clinical research studies, performing related tasks and activities. Collects information, recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility, and enrolls study participants and ensures subjects follow the research protocol. - 30% Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for a defined clinical research trial(s) - 10% Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects information, and answers questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. May perform basic medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy - 35% Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols - 5% Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels - 20% Serves as an initial point of contact for clinical research participants and clinical staff, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues

Tasks:

• Daily on-field management of data collections for all practices and games
• Daily distribution and maintenance of equipment for assessing head impacts (including basic troubleshooting of any malfunctions)
• Assisting in data management, including daily on-field management and individual exposure data and injury incidence
• Attend project meetings with PI and other investigators
• Identifying and communicating problems or concerns to PI

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degreein biology, chemistry, kinesiology, biomedical engineering, or other related fields.

Qualifications:

Prior experience performing human subjects research highly preferred.
Familiarity managing data in Excel highly preferred.

The successful candidate will have:
-Strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
-Ability to work independently in the performance of the position requirements.
-Schedule flexibility required to attend team practices and games.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $42,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every two years.
