In addition, the Senior Academic Counselor will play a critical role in supporting the broader strategic priorities of the DIA, and ultimately this position will help foster a life-changing experience for student-athletes.
Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. Organizational Relationship This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director, for Academic Services.

Impact in Your First Year Illinois Impact 3 Months · Become familiar with the strategic priorities of the Fighting Illini Division of Intercollegiate Athletes and Academic Services policies and procedures. · Meet with Coaches and Student-Athletes and begin to build working relationships with assigned teams. · Become familiar with the Screening, Assessment, and Evaluation process and work with the Learning Services Team to build out academic support and accountability tracking for assigned teams.
Illinois Impact 6 Months · Meet with campus partners to foster relationships with campus stakeholders · Assess and evaluate academic support strategies, NCAA certification, and graduation plans for student-athletes. · Cooperatively review performance indicators and year 1 goals during two quarterly evaluations with Associate AD of Academic Services.
Illinois Impact One Year · Prepare end of semester reports and submit them to the Associate AD for Academic Services. · Establish summer academic support plans for returning students and prepare for New Student Registration and orientation timeline for new students. · Cooperatively set annual goals with Associate AD of Academic Services.
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or Sport Management or closely related field.
Experience in athletic academic counseling and/or higher education, preferably with Men’s/Women’s Basketball student-athletes.

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/19/2024. Starting salary is $50,000, salary commensurate with experience.
