The department is especially interested in candidates who possess a Master’s degree, are licensed to practice in the State of Tennessee, and have experience at the
NCAA
D1 intercollegiate level.
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Will require work beyond the normal schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, travel, and some holidays.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Utilize knowledge and expertise to educate participants and manage risk for safe performance and function. Inform coaches, student-athletes, and administration on safe practice policies and procedures. Select, apply and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for injured athletes using appropriate knowledge to guide those decisions.

Implement standard evaluation techniques and formulate a clinical impression and determine the course of action for injured student-athletes. Select, apply, and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for injured student-athletes using appropriate knowledge to guide those decisions. Design, implement, and execute rehabilitation and reconditioning programs that encompass both short-term and long-term disability. In addition, coordinate post-operative care and management including wound care, regaining range of motion, strengthening, introduction to sport-related movements, return to play strategies, preventative bracing, and a protective plan for the remaining time of participation.

Obtain and interpret environmental (ambient temperature, relative humidity, heat index, lightning) and patient/client data (e.g., hydration status) to make appropriate recommendations for safety purposes and the continuance or suspension of activity. Inform student-athletes, coaches, and parents on the importance of acclimatization and fluid/electrolyte balance to prevent heat illness, asthmatic, and sickle cell events. Initiate lifesaving or emergency management strategies when needed.
