The Georgia Tech Athletic Associate (GTAA) sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 NCAA Division I sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Sr. Director, Marketing & Special Events is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic marketing plans for the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. This role will enhance marketing, promotional, fan experience, and sales efforts while leading innovative and collaborative efforts to engage the students, staff, alumni, supporters, and prospective fans. This position will report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing & Fan Experience and oversee the Director of Marketing & Fan Experience, the Assistant Director of Marketing & Fan Experience, and multiple post-grade/student interns. Additional responsibilities include the development, management, and overall operation of special events at Bobby Dodd Stadium and associated event space.
Job Duty 1 -
Manage football & men's basketball in-game production
Job Duty 2 -
Lead external (pregame/non-gameday) events production and activation (Block Party, Fan Day, House Party, etc.)
Job Duty 3 -
Build community group affinity via programmatic buildout and execution via curation, promotion, and execution of non-gameday and off-site community events
Job Duty 4 -
Work with marketing staff to plan and implement a broad range of publications, special events and marketing communications activities that contribute toward a positive image and reputation for the Athletics Department
Job Duty 5 -
Manage and direct all event-related logistics, including managing the events calendar, conducting walk-thrus and stadium visits, and being the primary contact for vendors and clients
Job Duty 6 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Communications, Public Relations, or Sports Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Four or more years of job-related experience - within intercollegiate athletics department or professional sports organization
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree in Marketing
Preferred Experience
Six or more years of experience in athletic marketing and promotions environment at the Division I level. Experience serving the needs of diverse populations.
ABILITIES
o This position requires lifting, pushing, or pulling 25 lbs or more of promotion material as needed
o The ability to work in outdoor venues occasionally
KNOWLEDGE
RELATED SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
o Administrative skills and the ability to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve department goals.
o Event and game management experience
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office
o Experience managing a budget
o Possesses analytical skills and data-driven thinking
o Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
o Supervisory experience preferred
o Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
o Well-organized with sharp attention to detail
o Interest or knowledge of sports preferred
