Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in exercise science, physical therapy, or an approved program in athletics training and five (5) years of related work experience. NATA and NATABOC Athletic Trainer certification required. Eligible for Kentucky state licensure. First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications. Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations. Ability to travel and work hours on nights, weekends, and holidays. Grade 11 (Salary).
Position Description:
The Senior Manager, Athlete Health and Performance (Senior Director of Sports Medicine) will develop, lead, and administer a comprehensive sports medicine program, which services the healthcare needs of student-athletes for all 23 University of Louisville sports.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance to cultivate and enhance the partnership with UofL Health
Provide healthcare to assigned sports program and oversee Sports Medicine services provided to student athletes for the University including injury prevention, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation and assist with referrals to counseling for student athletes.
Directly supervise directors, associate athletic trainers and assistant athletic trainers (e.g., hire, train/develop, evaluate)
Integrate and collaborate physical therapist from ULH and develop safe rehabilitation protocols.
Develop Sports Medicine budget in conjunction with the Athletic Business Office (ABO)
Collaborate with Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition, and Sport Science Departments to ensure safety of student athletes in the design and implementation conditioning and nutrition programs customized with the goal of enhancing overall welfare and performance.
Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions.
Coordinate with team physicians and healthcare providers the importance and delivery of quality healthcare to student athletes.
Collaborate with the Director of Mental Health and Performance to provide care for all student athletes.
Assist with development and updates of Sports Medicine policies and procedures.
Provide coverage for all workouts, practices and games when required, including travel and hosting pre and post season tournaments and events.
Communicate with physicians, student athletes, coaches, sport administrators, parents as needed regarding student athlete’s injuries and illnesses.
Assist Insurance Coordinator with medical billing.
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the Sports Medicine program.
Record keeping and documentation.
Participate in Continuing Education opportunities.
Other duties as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a Health and Performance domain and five years of post-baccalaureate Athletic Training experience.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills as well as organizational and administrative skills.
