Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development and
DEI
, the Senior Student Program Associate, Student Athlete Development supports the department by performing the following duties:
Assists in coordinating GW’s Student-Athlete Leadership Academy and leadership development programming (
LEAPP
).
Serve as an advisor and coordinator of GW’s Student Athlete Advisory Council (
SAAC
)
Assists in Career Development of student-athletes and serves as a referral resource through collaboration with GW’s Center for Career Services and individual school-specific career centers and initiatives.
Manages all aspects of athletic department’s community service and engagement program efforts, including ongoing annual project collaborations with area organizations along with communicating to and recruiting student-athletes to participate. Assists student-athletes with community service project placement by connecting and centralizing all interested parties and populations. Serves as liaison to GW’s Office of Community Service.
Assists in planning of semester kick-off events for both student-athletes and staff annually/biannually; including researching/suggesting/selecting topics/speakers for and organizing personal development “Major Speaker Events”, along with soliciting support and sponsorship from other campus organizations.
Initiates contact, builds relationships, and collaborates with the Office of the Student Experience and other administrative offices on campus to achieve developmental goals of student-athletes. Collaborations could include Dean of Students Office, University Counseling Center, Career Services, Multicultural Student Services, Office of Community Service, International Services Office, Center for Student Engagement, and Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, among others.
Provides data for comprehensive end of the year “Student Athlete Development Annual Report” for Administrators.
Develops and implements tools to assess needs and outcomes of programming related to all appropriate areas.
Collaborates with the marketing department to produce marketing to promote all programming and workshops and to disseminate information pertaining to personal development/education and career education.
Assists in nominations and applications for various scholarship and award opportunities for student-athletes. (e.g.
NCAA
Post-Grad Scholarship, Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars)
Assists with programming and education from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force for both student-athletes and staff.
Seeks out partnerships on and off campus to provide programming and services for student-athletes.
This position is On-campus (in person). On-Campus work: Job functions that are essential and must be completed or are most effectively completed at an on-campus location. These roles provide student services & support, teaching & research support, welcome visitors, serve clients/customers facing roles, among others. Employees have an assigned workspace at an on-campus site. The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC and will require minimal travel. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
