The Social Media Manager/Strategist will be charged with developing and implementing social media strategies that align with Maryland Athletics’ overall strategic priorities and guiding principles. The position will be responsible for managing social media accounts, creating engaging content, monitoring social media trends, analyzing data and metrics, and interacting with fans and followers. This role requires a deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices, as well as the ability to collaborate with staff who produce and post social media content. This individual will oversee all social media content, engagement, and campaigns across multiple platforms, with the goal of increasing brand awareness, driving fan engagement, and supporting various revenue generation initiatives.
Candidates should have a proven track record of developing successful social media campaigns; demonstrate they are data and analytically driven; can turn insights into actionable strategies; and possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills. This individual will be the main force behind the department and teams’ social media presence and personality. The ideal candidate should define and drive social strategy, tone, voice, channel guidelines, goals, and audience targets. They should demonstrate deep knowledge and proven results of crafting and implementing innovative social media growth strategies with the ability to conceptualize and create engaging content, including graphics, videos, and written posts, tailored to each social media platform and sport.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience with social media, digital media, communications, marketing, revenue generation or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat.
Great working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, digital and social platforms and Adobe Suite (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, etc.).
Proactive planner with a sense of urgency, creativity, style and attention to detail; Confident decision-maker to execute campaigns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong research skills.
Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
Ability to work frequent evenings, weekends and holidays.
Preferences:
Experience working at a Division I collegiate athletics department or professional sports organization.
Demonstrated development of successful social media campaigns leading to increased attendance, fan engagement, and revenue generation.
Demonstrated expertise with metrics and analytics (e.g. Brandwatch or similar) and creation of weekly or monthly reports with data.
Salary range $58,900-$73,300.

The scope of the position frequently requires weekend and evening work with team travel (Non-standard work hours).
While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc;
Constantly moves about the facility and event site before, during and after events to service clients; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.
