Mens Basketball
In coordination with the Head Coach, the Special Assistant to the Head Coach assists with all administrative aspects of the basketball program to include, but not limited to, recruiting, compliance, travel, scheduling, community relations, summer camps/clinics, in addition to creation, development and implementation of a whole-person player development program.
Responsibilities & Duties
Lead/direct a fully comprehensive player-development program including but not limited to leadership, financial literacy, media training, player mentor program, post-college transition planning/preparation, nutrition, strength/conditioning, etc. Design specific development and assessment plans for each individual player. Serve as liaison to strength & conditioning coach and develop, monitor and assess player nutrition program. Monitor performance, rest and recovery for each individual player. Prepare film study sessions for player and team development
Develop and lead Professional Opportunities Program for players, to include but not limited to
NBA
& G-League, Europe, Other Professional Leagues, etc. In coordination with the Compliance office, lead agent education and player evaluation opportunities program.
Serve as name, image, likeness coordinator for the men’s basketball program.
Assist and/or direct all
NCAA
permissible aspects of recruiting, including but not limited to maintenance of prospective student-athlete pool, coordination of countable coaches recruiting efforts, official/unofficial visits, special events and local administrative support.
Assist and/or direct daily operations including but not limited to budget, travel, practice facility setup, player film study sessions, practice evaluation, game preparation (manage scouting schedule), sport social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, etc.), day-to-day and competitive scheduling, player/parent communication, camps/clinics and academics.
Assist Head Coach with daily practice planning & organization; provide player/offense/defense/special team scouting reports; maintain regular communication with Head Coach regarding strengths and areas for improvement within the basketball program.
External & Community Relations Coordinator – maintain regular/consistent communication with and organize special events (RacerMania, autograph sessions, open practices, tours, etc.) for former players, coaches and alumni; assist with season/single-game ticket sales and fundraising
Assist in ensuring all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program are operated in an
NCAA
Compliant manner.
Maintain an expansive industry/professional network, both nationally and globally
Responsible for all aspects of a comprehensive whole-person player development program to include, but not limited to leadership, nutrition, service, financial literacy, etc.
As a member of the Murray State University Athletic Department, you shall comply with all applicable
NCAA
rules and regulations as provided in the
NCAA
Division I Manual. If you are found in violation of
NCAA
regulations, you shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the
NCAA
enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant repetitive violations.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience as a high school and collegiate player.
Experience coaching, instructing and/or administering at a high school and collegiate level.
Basic to advanced knowledge with video editing software specific to sport/scouting applications
Highly effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with diverse groups of student-athletes, coaches and staff
Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
Exceptionally strong organizational skills
Familiarity with latest technology and trends
Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds and setup practice/development activities.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications
Experience playing, coaching, instructing and administering at a professional level is highly preferred
