The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), founded in 1891, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to "promote, influence, and assist in financing the varsity athletic programs of the midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy" in accordance with the policy of the Superintendent of the Academy. Through an intercollegiate athletics program that is one of the largest in the country, every midshipman is afforded the opportunity to compete in athletics at the Division I level. The emphasis on physical fitness is borne out in the first line of the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy: To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically.

 

Summary

The Special Assistant to the Head Coach serves as a strategic member of the Navy Men’s Basketball staff responsible for advancing the program’s brand, enhancing the recruiting experience, strengthening alumni engagement and producing compelling content that reflects the values and mission of Navy Basketball. This individual will work closely with the Head Coach on special projects, communications, relationship management, storytelling and day to day operations while helping execute a first-class experience for alumni, student-athletes, recruits and fans.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Alumni Relations, support the Head Coach by producing a quarterly newsletter in conjunction with the Development and Letterwinners Association, write feature stories, highlight players’ accomplishments and coordinate all alumni engagements during the year and the banquet/awards for the program

  • On-campus Recruiting, help build customized visit itineraries, coordinate meetings, meals, photography and recruiting presentations and graphics

  • Brand Management, develop annual social media strategy in conjunction with the Director of Social Media, manage social content calendar, produce feature, coordinate graphic requests with Athletics Communications, develop year- long content campaigns, create end of season highlight for program and coordinate all photo and video shoots

  • Special Projects and Administrative Duties, serve as the Head Coach’s point person for special projects and day- to -day program operations, help prepare presentations and speaking materials, assist with summer camp promotions and enrollment, coordinate special events with donors, coordinate signage for program in facilities to align with Navy Athletics branding, coordinate award nominations and recognition pieces through interviews and storytelling
