The Director of Sports Information is responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the university’s 12 intercollegiate sports. The Director of Sports Information is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Sul Ross State University, the Lone Star Conference (
LSC
) and the
NCAA
.
Essential Responsibilities:
Coordinate the development and implementation of a proactive media outreach program to print, radio, TV, and other electronic media outlets.
Oversees, manages, and supervises sports information functions, which includes but is not limited to: develops and maintains a budget for office operation and publications; develops publications (programs, media guides, etc.) for all intercollegiate sports
Staffs and coordinates game statistics and media-related activities for home and away games;
Maintains and enhances
SRSU
Athletic website for all sports
Prepares team and individual press releases to appropriate media outlets
Completes all statistical and score information required by
LSC
and
NCAA
Maintains statistical information for current and past athletic records
Develops and maintains a positive public relations orientation in the promotion of Sul Ross athletics
Create compelling stories, graphics and videos to promote Sul Ross State University Athletics.
Prepare media releases to communicate with the general public and campus about the college’s athletics program and teams.
Work proactively with media to encourage coverage of college athletics
Oversee production of media guides, publications, and game-day materials for all sports.
Serve as the public relations agent for the Athletics Department in developing positive relations with media representatives from the electronic and print media.
Responsible for maintenance of all portions of the athletics website and approved social media pages .
Oversee all statistical inputting, spotting, and corrections necessary with Stat Crew and
NCAA
Genius Live Stats.
Reports to the Director of Athletics
Assist in coordinating special athletic events such as the Hall of Honor induction, fundraisers, etc.
Staff and be in attendance for all home sporting events. Attendance at road events, such as
LSC
or
NCAA
Tournament, or other University events when necessary.
Take or assign staff to take photographs when necessary
Supervise Assistant Sports Information Director, Graduate Assistant, and student workers.
Perform other communications and information duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
May be required to work evenings/weekends for events. Light Travel for official University events throughout the year.
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.

campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College.
RGC
offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to
RGC
for their students. All
RGC
students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferable work.
