ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The USF Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is an integral part of USF and its mission by sponsoring a diverse and nationally competitive Division I athletic program. The program serves several significant constituencies, including its student-athletes, who are students first. The most important priority of the program is the progress of the student-athletes toward graduation. Other priorities include the health, fitness and emotional development of student-athletes at USF.
Intercollegiate Athletics provide a sense of collegiality, allegiance, and pride for students, staff, faculty, alumni, boosters and the greater Tampa Bay community at large and serves as a focal point for their support. POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Manager of Athletic Grounds with the primary responsibility of general maintenance and turf grass management of assigned USF Athletics sports fields including but not limited to, mowing edging sodding aerating, herbicide spraying, topdressing, irrigation repairs/installations and assisting with fertilizer and pest control applications. Position is also responsible for supervision of assigned event day turf crew for events to include field preparation, field setup/take-down and other duties related to preparing the field for use. Also responsible for maintenance of the grounds and landscaping of assigned areas within the USF Athletics District to include keeping USF grounds areas in a clean and orderly condition, free of trash and debris, mowing lawns, trimming and pruning trees and bushes, and detailing landscape elements and flowerbeds. Adheres to all NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the general maintenance of the track & field, soccer, football, tennis, baseball and softball fields. Perform field maintenance; including, but not limited to, mound and home plate repair, painting, warning track maintenance, batting practice setup/tear-down, tarp pulling, event set-up/break-down. Perform turf grass management; including, but not limited to, mowing edging, sodding, aerating, herbicide spraying, topdressing, irrigation repairs/installations, as well as assisting with fertilizer and pest control applications.
Responsible for supervision of assigned event-day turf crew for the various intercollegiate athletics sports competitions including, but not limited to softball, baseball, soccer, tennis and track & field and other special events such as outside tournament competitions and camps. Responsible to coordinate the necessary responsibilities for field set-up, tear down and other duties related to preparing the fields. May perform these duties him/herself (working supervisor role).
Perform general facility maintenance including, but not limited, mowing, edging, blowing & trash removal. May assist with the purchasing of landscaping materials as well as sports turf materials needed to properly maintain the assigned sports field.
Checks motorized equipment to ensure it is in good operative condition before daily usage. May perform basic equipment maintenance or reports faulty/damaged equipment to the Equipment Technician for repair.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires completion of the 9th grade and one year of landscaping/grounds keeping experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
PREFERRED:
High school diploma and one year landscaping/groundskeeping experience
