Who We Are:

Swarthmore College’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports the mental health and well-being of Swarthmore students. We aim to create a safe and confidential environment through a range of psychological support and consultation services. We provide individual and group counseling, assessment, consultation, outreach, and referral services to the Swarthmore College community.

The opportunity:

This position provides direct clinical services to primarily student athletes (including but not limited to triage, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention), with some services provided to the broader student population. The position includes outreach programming, consultation, and professional training to student athletes, coaches, and staff on topics central to mental health needs, including NCAA and best practice guidelines. This position is embedded in the Athletics department and will split time between the Worth Health Center and the Athletics Offices. The Staff Counselor, Athletics is a full-time, exempt, benefits eligible, 9-month position. The expected schedule is working 35 hours per week from mid-August through mid-May.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling, assessment, and crisis intervention to students with developmental and/or personal mental health concerns, with an emphasis on student-athletes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
  • Provide consultation to athletic coaches and teams.
  • Provide mental health related programming/presentations for student athletes.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational and process-oriented groups for student athletes.
