I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University offers a comprehensive, NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 400 student-athletes across 20 varsity sports. A charter member of the storied Atlantic 10 Conference and the league’s only Association of American Universities (AAU) member institution, the GW Revolutionaries lead in the classroom, in competition, and in service to our campus and local communities. GW’s combination of world-class academics, elite A10 athletics, and location in the heart of the nation’s capital affords our student-athletes an exceptional platform to achieve their dreams.

Reporting to the Director, Strength and Conditioning, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will align programming with the overall vision of the Director while also being responsible for the following:

  • Develops, designs, and implements sports performance programs for GWU student-athletes to enhance their strength, power, speed, and agility.
  • Develops and administers the sports performance program for assigned teams using a holistic and systemic approach.
  • Educates and directs student-athletes and coaches on the proper techniques and safety standards of appropriate strength and conditioning best practices.
  • Utilizes heart rate/GPS technology and other exercise physiological testing (in conjunction with the GW Exercise Science Department or outside providers) to enhance the training and biofeedback for our students.
  • Works directly with the sports medicine department to mitigate injury risk while also working to provide rehabilitation programs for those students working back from injuries.
  • Analyzes nutritional habits of the student-athletes and, with the support of the Director (and other professionals where it makes sense), provides education on appropriate dietary and nutritional habits- implementing a performance dining plan for the basketball team while assisting with overall execution of performance dining for multiple sports.
  • Works seamlessly with sports medicine department to ensure best development of all student-athletes.
