Under the guidance of the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator will assist with all aspects of the student-athlete development program. The Coordinator will have a primary focus on personal enhancement, community service, and assist with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) initiatives while providing programming related to supporting underrepresented populations, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and student-athlete engagement and achievement. Secondary support for various Student-Athlete Career and Leadership programming, Black and Gold Networking events, and Student-Athlete Mentorship programs. Additionally, the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator will have the opportunity to serve on a variety of department, conference, and campus committees. This position will research, plan, and coordinate programming that directly supports student-athlete personal development. This position requires evening and weekend hours.
Typical Duties
Assists with the creation, implementation, and facilitation of personal engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and community service initiatives on a yearly basis.
Assist in the operational and logistical support for the VCU Student-Athlete Development program including collaborating with SASS staff, athletic coaches, sports psychology, nutrition, and athletic training staff.
Facilitates and records opportunities for community service and engagement. Includes evaluating and implementing assessment-related strategies to understand and strengthen the impact of community service programming and initiatives.
Coordinate community engagement opportunities for student-athletes and responsible for tracking student-athlete community service hours.
Assists the SAAC advisor with the development and execution of assigned student-athlete groups, which may include, but are not limited to student-athletes of color, LGBTQIA+, women, and other populations.
Assists in the coordination of the Rodney Awards Banquet, Student-Athlete Kick-Off, It’s on Us Campaign, Academic Achievement Celebrations, Student-Athlete Graduation, and other events as assigned.
Observe FERPA policies without appearing unhelpful and referring student-athletes to appropriate resources in a way that encourages them to follow through.
Coordinate NCAA, Conference and other scholarship application processes.
Serve as member of the VCU Athletics DEI Committee and other Atlantic 10 committees as needed

Teach at least one section of UNIV 1xx per year.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree, or education and relevant work experience equating to an advanced degree, is required.
Experience working with student-athletes at a large, diverse, urban, NCAA Division I university.
Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to motivate student-athletes towards academic achievement.
Experience in academic advising in a culturally diverse university environment with student-athletes of varying academic levels.
Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Must be able to work evening and/or weekend hours, as needed.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master's degree in social work, counseling, higher education administration, sport leadership, humanities, or related area
Personal student-athlete collegiate experience.
Experience working in a university student-athlete support services, student-athlete development, or other related support/ student affairs office.
Experience teaching and/or leading workshops.
