Job Purpose
Coordinates and completes specified duties/responsibilities within the area of athletics academic support, mental health and wellness programming, student-athlete support services and compliance. Exercises oversight of all sports programs in relation to the National Collegiate Athletics Association and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference leadership development, community service efforts, and recognition programs. Has direct communication with all head and assistant coaches. Also serves as advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Reports to Manager.
Essential Functions
Serves as student-development coordinator/chair of the championship committee/Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor and leads programming efforts and manages budget in the areas of athletic/academic excellence, personal development, career development and community service.
Manages the Teamwork software for academic monitoring and mass communication of department efforts, and compliance workflows.
Interacts with various public/organizations on a range of outreach and development initiatives that may include active solicitation of external sources of revenue and advancing communication responses.
Organizes all student athlete recognition efforts (Graduation, Letterwinners, and Academic Accolades).
Manages and oversees budget of athletic department ancillary events (Welcome Back Event, leadership luncheons, community lunch and learns, Golden W’s, etc.) May negotiate pricing with vendors.
Assists in the development and execution of National Collegiate Athletics Association rules education initiatives for coaches and staff.
Serves as programmatic liaison with the department and student athlete support services.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK CONTEXT
Job Reports to: Associate Director.
Leadership Accountability: Implements operating plans.
Customer Accountability: Interfaces with customers outside the S/C/D.
Freedom to Act: Subject to general input from supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business, or a related field. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
Requires 3 or more years experience with National Collegiate Athletic Association Athletics compliance or intercollegiate athletics related functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in National Collegiate Athletic Association compliance demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts/terminology. Experience using Banner and CAI is preferred.
A good working understanding of the “student-athlete experience” and its relationship to the University’s mission.
Demonstrated ability to recognize/identify, evaluate and resolve problems that commonly occur in an athletics department.
Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, author reports/policies/procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
Ability to manage time in order to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a time-sensitive setting.
