This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance. Collaborate with healthcare and athletic professionals to ensure the mental health and wellness of approximately 650 student-athletes. Duties will include the following key areas of focus:
Coordination of Clinical Care –
Triage, coordinate and track referrals to mental health and wellness services, including psychotherapy, medication management, neuropsychological testing, substance abuse treatment, etc. Monitor provider volumes, level loading caseloads, and matching the needs to individual student-athletes with the availability and expertise of providers. Consult with team clinical psychologists and physicians and work directly with student-athletes to manage crises, develop appropriate crisis prevention and safety plans, as well as engage in exposure and response prevention coaching as needed. This position will NOT provide psychiatric or longitudinal psychological counseling, administer substance abuse treatment or medications to student-athletes.
Resource and Services Management/Referral –
Develop and maintain a database of mental health and wellness resources available to student-athletes across campus and in the greater Seattle community. Serve as a liaison between athletics and upper campus and as appropriate, work in an advocacy role for student-athletes. Consult with healthcare and athletic professionals (e.g., coaches and administrators) about student-athlete wellness, regardless of whether a team is in or out of season and facilitate connection to appropriate resources.
Training and Education –
Coordinate and track training and education to staff, coaches, and student-athletes on identified issues regarding personal health and wellness. Stay up to date with population relevant trends and issues, proactively raising awareness among all ICA constituents through seminars and meetings with athletic teams and staff groups (especially those working closely with student-athletes).
Advising and Mentorship –
Work with student-athlete groups to develop and sustain peer support programs.
Wellness Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation –
Work in collaboration with Team Clinical Psychologists, the Senior Associate AD of Health and Performance, Team Physicians, and Coaches to identify team wellness programming needs and carrying out the vision deciphered for the program. Consult and collaborate with appropriate personnel on the development of programming, including writing curriculum, and securing outside expertise as needed. Participate in the implementation of Wellness Programming, leading and co-leading offerings as appropriate. Participate in developing and tracking metrics of program effectiveness.
Data Tracking –
Generate reports related to categories outlined above, including but not limited to utilization rates, offerings and attendance, and provider volumes.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, nursing, public health, or a related field and four years of experience in a healthcare setting. In-depth knowledge of current literature and trends regarding interpersonal violence, sexual assault and best practices regarding student athlete wellness and mental health. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to make independent judgments, apply discretion, maintain privacy, and consult when appropriate.
Professional written and verbal communication skills interfacing directly with physicians, staff, athletes and the public. Exceptional customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of patient’s medical records and adherence with all related federal policies.
Desired
Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, athletic training, or related field. Healthcare provider credential including but not limited to License in Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), or Registered Nurse (RN)
Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering educational programming, managing, and coordinating multiple cases at one time. Experience working within a high performance collegiate/university setting. Demonstrated experience in developing novel wellness solutions to help garner competitive advantages that will benefit student-athletes and teams. Extensive experience in the development and delivery of evaluations for team and individual wellness.
