SUMMARY:

Event Staff provides management and oversight for all home sporting events throughout the school year for the 19 sports that Vanguard University sponsors under the guidance of the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. The work hours for this job are dictated by the athletic events calendar, as this position will support on-campus events and home games. These events range from nights, weekends, holidays, and during school hours.

POSITIONS INCLUDE:

• Customer Service (Ticket taking, entrance/exit coverage and snack bar)

• Set-up and tear-down

• Ball Retriever (Soccer, Volleyball)

• Floor Sweeper (Basketball)

• Media (Social Media, Graphics, Live stream broadcast)

• Photography/Videography

• Gameday music/DJ

Further jobs that require some additional training include:

• Statistics (Computerized and handwritten statistics for volleyball, soccer, basketball, and baseball/softball)

• Announcers (Live stream play-by-play and stadium announcers)

• Scorer's Table Personnel (Scoreboard, Shot Clock, Game Clock, PA Announcer)

• PLEASE NOTE: those who demonstrate specialized skills for these jobs will get priority for hiring

On average it takes about 10 student-workers to facilitate a volleyball game, 12 for a basketball game, 9 for a soccer game, four for wrestling, four for STUNT, and 5 for baseball/softball contests.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Current student enrolled at Vanguard University in good standing.

• Vibrant belief in Jesus Christ with ample evidence of personal discipleship.

• Maintain minimum grade point average of 2.0 each term.

• Demonstrated commitment as a team player to support and collaborate with faculty, staff, peers, and external constituents, as well as the initiative and ability to work independently.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will result in effective collaboration.

• Skillsets: Accounting, Advertising, Media & PR, Customer/Technical Support, Data & Analytics, Design / Art, Education / Teaching / Training, Fundraising & Event Management, General Management, Hotel / Restaurant / Hospitality, Marketing - General, Recreation/Fitness, Research, Writing / Editing. A résumé or work sample (especially for social media, photography and videography positions) is encouraged but not required.

COMPENSATION:

This position is 4-12 hours per week at a rate of $16.90 per hour.
