About the Role:

The Student - Sports Team Assistant Volleyball position at Saint Joseph's College supports the volleyball team, players and staff in their athletic mission on and off campus. providing essential support and ensuring smooth daily operations, contributing to the overall success of the team. This role involves assisting with practice setup, equipment management, and logistical coordination for games and events. The assistant will play a key part in fostering a positive and organized environment that promotes athletic development and team cohesion. By supporting both administrative and on-field activities, the assistant helps maintain high standards of professionalism and efficiency within the sports program. Ultimately, this position offers valuable hands-on experience in sports management and team operations within an educational setting.

Duties Associated with Position :

• Attend all practices and games
• Assist with training and teaching student-athletes
• Assist with home and away game preparation
• Travel with the team to away games
• Responsible for assisting with ordering and picking up meals for game day

• Responsible for set up and break down of equipment for practice and games

  • prolonged periods of standing, lifting 25 lbs of equipment and being able to walk with it, etc.

• Responsible for assisting with ordering and picking up meals for game day

• Responsible for set up and break down of equipment for practice and games

• Responsible for running the scoreboard and shot clocks at practice

• Record statistics during practice and games

• Coordinate with laundry room staff to drop off and pick up team laundry 

• Responsible for the game uniform collection and handout

• Participate in team fundraising activities

• Performs other duties to support the sports program

• Performs other duties to support the College as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current enrollment as a student at Saint Joseph's College of Maine
• Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
• Possess a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and support for student population
• Must demonstrate teamwork skills and a willingness to help others
• Possesses a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience assisting with sports teams or athletic programs
• Familiarity with sports statistics tracking software or tools
• Knowledge of volleyball rules and terminology
• CPR/First Aid certification, or the ability to become certified
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Interest in pursuing a career related to sports management, coaching, or athletic training

Community-Based Service Work Requirement: In support of our core value of compassion, which calls us to “consciously reach out beyond our college boundaries to serve the needs of others,” all Federal Work Study (FWS) student employees at Saint Joseph’s College are expected to complete eight (8) hours of community-based service work, prior to FWS exhausting. These hours can be completed all at once or incrementally. You will receive payment for the 8 community-based service hours as completed on a bi-weekly basis. FWS student employees will have ten weeks to complete their eight (8) hours of community-based work from the start of their position. This work is to be coordinated with the student employee’s department manager throughout the semester and students can participate as it fits their schedule. This community-based service work relates directly to the Core Values of Community, Justice, Excellence, and Respect which are the foundation of the College.
