Primary responsibilities include individual nutrition counseling; team education; menu development; serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and sports performance staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice. Assist the Assistant AD for Sports Nutrition on managerial oversight of the Sports Nutrition program. - Student-athlete nutrition counseling and education - Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of student-athletes in the context of athletic performance and health. - Assessment and counseling of student-athletes on optimal nutritional practices for exercise training, competition, recovery from practice, recovery from injury and illness, weight management, hydration and supplementation. - Identify and advise on medical-related nutrition concerns such as but not limited to anemia, disordered eating, diabetes, bone mineral disturbances, amenorrhea, dyslipidemia, hypertension, gastrointestinal concerns, food allergies and intolerances, and other medical conditions. - Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and health - Document nutrition services provided and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes. - Provide assessment and counseling of student-athletes regarding appropriate and legal use of dietary supplements, regularly banned drugs and restricted substances in compliance with sport governing bodies; e.g. NCAA, U.S. Anti-doping Agency (USADA), World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and the Department of Intercollegiate (DIA) policies - Meet with prospective student athletes as part of the recruiting process providing perspective student-athletes and family members wit comprehensive overview of performance nutrition services. - Coordination of the development and oversight of nutrition education material production, social media, and on-site athlete dining education. - Serve as a member of the menu management team within Varsity Room (Training Table), charged with enhancing the nutritional content of recipes and production techniques for nutritionally adequate meals for athletic performance and recovery - Oversight of all catering, pre-, intra-, post- practice and competition nutrition offerings for the Men’s and Women’s Basketball student-athletes.

- Actively participate in meal monitoring and plate-side nutrition education for student athletes at Varsity Room (training table), events, and team-specific meals.
- Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance
- Attend team meals and actively coach student-athletes to educate and enhance student-athlete meal choices
- Educate regarding food selection (grocery store tours, food storage, use of per diem, use of Red Card), and food preparation (cooking classes).
- Serve as a nutrition resource for coaches, sports medical staff, academic services staff, and others within the department as appropriate.
- Coordinate and communicate travel nutrition needs for assigned team(s).

Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s degree in Nutrition or related field Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration) Licensed Dietitian (State of Illinois) required upon hire.
Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/30/2024. The budget salary range is $58,000-$63,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualification, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
