The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) invites applications for the Technology Specialist position to support the department.
Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. The DIA mission is to Unify, Develop, Inspire, and Achieve, for the benefit of our student-athletes, our university, and our broader community.
DIA has set forth six strategic priorities to help guide and advance its overarching mission: Championship people, championship mindset; strategic innovation and investment; athletic success; financial sustainability; win championships; community engagement and enrichment. Sports Technology Help Desk
• Serve as a technology consultant and innovator for Illinois Athletics staff and coaches
• Apply solutions with minimum supervision and using considerable evaluation, originality, and ingenuity
• Provide end user support to staff and coaches
• Support a variety of endpoint types including desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, printers and IoT devices
• Utilize ticketing system to track and document work

• Provide end user support to staff and coaches
• Support a variety of endpoint types including desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, printers and IoT devices
• Utilize ticketing system to track and document work
• Create reports from ticketing system to assist in identifying trends and issues
• Deploy software, updates and security patches to endpoints
• Deploy software via endpoint management, one-off installs or other methods
• Group management
• Manage printer deployment to users via group membership
• Manage workstation policy deployment to users via group membership
• Staff onboarding/off boarding
• Add and remove users from groups to manage permission to resources
• Provision required resources for new users
• Deploy, configure, and deprovision hardware for staff
• User education and training
• Create, update and maintain end user documentation
• New workstation setup
• Complete device imaging for the department
• Update inventory system to track hardware
• Physical setup and cable management
• Schedule, train and direct student workers
• Act as a technical and institutional resource for other Technology Specialists providing training and advice
as needed.
Game Day and special events
• Provide support for athletics specific technology including but not limited to scoreboards, sport specific performance systems, digital signage and other venue technology
• Participate in a team to provide on-site and on-call support for athletics and special events. Support includes but is not limited to in-game live statistics feeds, external media networking support, instant replay
hardware, security camera systems and stats scoreboard interface
• Schedule, train and direct student workers
• Create processes and documentation to provide continuity and standardization
Organizational Relationship
This position will report to the Director, Sports Technology
This position provides support for hardware, software, network, desktop computing and other related technology services within Illinois Athletics.
Impact in Your First Year
Within 3 months, you will:

-Assist in keeping DIA employees operational from a technical stand point. Learning to anticipate and assist in sports technology areas. Make suggestions and contribute to sports technology efficiency and effectiveness. Provide superior customer service.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of work experience in IT‐related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).
Demonstrated experience within athletics
Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to manage multiple workstations via endpoint management systems and software Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks in time sensitive situations
Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required.

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Technology Specialist position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/7/2026. Salary is $55,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
