Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The primary purpose of the Department of Athletics is to provide a program of intercollegiate athletics for students at the university. The Department of Athletics accepts the challenge of creating an environment whereby student-athletes are both progressing academically in a degree program leading towards graduation and competing athletically against the highest level of competition. Each student-athlete is viewed as an individual whose general health, fitness and emotional development are of significant value. Primary Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Director of Athletic Training Services/Head Athletic Trainer and is independently responsible for the day-to-day sports medicine/athletic training operations of one or more of the Fayetteville State University 11
NCAA
D2 athletic teams and Cheerleading. This incumbent will be assign a 10 month work assignment. Duties include but are not limited to:
Independently and effectively oversee all sports medicine operations for assigned teams with minimum supervision.
Prevention, Evaluation, Treatment and Rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and illnesses within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program
Maintain accurate, complete, and precise documentation utilizing an electronic medical record system.
Completing required insurance claims
Compliance with privacy regulations (
FERPA
,
HIPAA
, etc.)
Daily interaction and communication with coaching staff including routine reports and correspondence.
Work closely with/have good work working relationship with team orthopedic practice/team physicians.
Schedule and coordinate medical appointments.
Maintain communication with Student Health Services for non-orthopedic illnesses.
Advocate and provide resources for nutritional and mental health.
Attending designated team practices/events.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays more than 40 hours/week.
Travel/Coverage of away events; pending sport assignment.
Maintenance/Upkeep of Athletic Training equipment and facilities
Uphold Policies and Procedures set forth by Fayetteville State University, the
CIAA
Conference, and the
NCAA
Assistance with administrative duties as agreed upon by candidate and Director of Athletic Training Services
Based on Year-to -Year Budget Fayetteville State University can provide the following for Athletic Trainers:

North Carolina Licensure Application/Renewal Dues
Continuing Education experiences and/or
NATA
professional conference
Bachelor’s Degree or Masters’ Degree from an Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (
CAATE
) approved Athletic Training Education Program;
Board of Certification (
BOC
) for the Athletic Trainer;
Current North Carolina state licensure or eligible for application.
Current
CPR
and First Aid certifications are prerequisites.
Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential
Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines
Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment
Selected Candidate will have an expected start date of August 1, 2024.
