SUMMARY : The Varsity Women’s Basketball Coach is directly responsible for conducting the women’s basketball program in keeping with the institutional mission statement and that of the athletic department. He/She will adhere to all policies set forth by any national or regional associations with which Kentucky Christian University holds membership. As an institution of Christian higher education, it shall be expected that all athletic staff be held to the highest of moral and ethical standards. With this in mind, we view the coach as a mentor of such standards and shall expect no less of the student-athletes entrusted to our coaching staff. He/She should have a functional knowledge of practices, policies, and strategies common to the sport as well as demonstrated success in that sport.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : The Varsity Women’s Basketball Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The Varsity Women’s Basketball Coach has the following responsibilities and authorities:
Coordinate daily team activities consistent with commonly accepted policies and procedures within that sport.
Oversee the recruitment of student-athletes within the guidelines of all athletic associations with which Kentucky Christian University enjoys membership.
Provide adequate practice situations to assist the coaching staff with regards to team selection.
Conduct pre-season workouts to physically prepare the athletes for the rigors of an intercollegiate athletic season.
Monitor the academic progress of the student-athlete with the cooperation of faculty and academic administration.
The selection and oversight of all team staff members.
Provide clear and consistent team guidelines, complete with expectations and discipline measures that could be enforced.
Prepare an annual team budget.
Construct a schedule that will prepare the team for regional and national competitive success.
Make arrangements for team travel. This should include all of the following:
Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of all athletic facilities pertinent to the sport.
Conduct post-season workouts consistent with all athletic association guidelines.
Support the total athletic program and assist other sports as they strive for program excellence.
Comply with all policies, rules and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
Perform additional duties as they are assigned.
AUTHORITIES OF THE HEAD WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Ability to define problems, evaluate, and make independent decisions based on experience and knowledge in regards to their sport.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small and large group situations.
Ability to clearly write complex correspondence, memos, and reports.
Ability to use computer technology at an intermediate level or above.
Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all electronic and computer equipment and manually complete paperwork such as signing completed reports.
Ability to listen and hear prospective students, current students, staff, faculty and administrators speak about athletic issues and concerns.
Ability to physically perform the essential job functions for a sport specific coach.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Ability to develop and maintain a strong working relationship with all areas of the university community especially within the area of intercollegiate athletics.
OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS : Current institutional operations and building designs ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing their work. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
