Structure

The Vice President for Development, Central Programs is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the UC Foundation President.

Focus

The Vice President for Development is responsible for leading, planning, implementing and managing fundraising staff and programs for central development programs including athletics, corporate & foundation relations, gift planning & administration, national development (regional) and stewardship. Central development programs provide high-level centralized services that support both the undergraduate and graduate focused colleges on UC’s west campus, the academic health enterprise (Colleges of Medicine, Allied Health, Nursing and Pharmacy, plus UC Health) on east campus, athletics and other administrative units.

Specific Duties

• Collaborate with the UC Foundation President on the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy; utilizing data and analytics to track and evaluate strategy effectiveness.
• Partner with fellow UC Foundation Lead Team colleagues to set and implement strategies to support UC & UC Health.
• Provide administrative leadership and strategic counsel for assigned central development fundraising staff, developing programs and activities that provide equitable support for fundraising and campaign objectives at both the University of Cincinnati (UC) and UC Health.
• Responsible for setting and attaining overall annual fundraising goals for assigned programs.
• Recruit, lead, motivate and manage a team of development professionals; establish objectives, set performance standards and productivity metrics, and evaluate performance; provide appropriate levels of training, mentoring and professional development. Assign and direct projects and oversee day-to-day operations of the team.
• Personally manage a small portfolio of major ($100,000+) and principal ($1M+) gift prospects and provide ongoing stewardship, developing and maintaining strong relationships with major donors, stakeholders and partners.
• Maintain an active schedule of personal visits with prospects.
• Foster productive relationships with faculty and leadership.
• Prepare reports and present on fundraising activities and financial results to the UC Foundation President.
• Establish and manage the operational budget for central development working with the UC Foundation President and Chief Financial Officer.
• Represent UC, UC Health and the UC Foundation to alumni, donors and friends at local and national outreach events.
• Recruit, retain and support volunteers engaged with assigned fundraising initiatives.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of major gift development experience, preferably in a higher education environment or advanced degree with 7-10 years of experience
• A proven track record of success in personal solicitation of major gifts
• Significant experience in leading and managing a development program and staff, preferably with significant experience leading central development functions.
• Technical knowledge of gift planning, corporate relations, and/or foundation relations especially desired.
• Demonstrate ease in interacting with high-level individuals and exhibit excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills
• Must be willing to attend evening and weekend activities and travel, as needed. Valid driver’s license required for travel
• A commitment to and passion for the role of development in furthering the mission of the University of Cincinnati & UC Health is essential

What We Offer

The anticipated starting salary range for the Vice President for Development, Central Programs role is $250,000-$300,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
