Job Description

The head women’s basketball coach is responsible for the development and success of the women’s basketball program. This position develops the culture and determines the selection of student-athletes that are part of the program. This position is also responsible for the creation and teaching of the system that the team will utilize. This position hires and manages the women’s basketball assistant coaches and support staff members. This position serves as an ambassador for the program, the department, and the University as a whole both locally and nationally.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum 5 years of coaching women’s basketball experience required (Division 1 preferred).

System development and teaching that leads to success on the floor.

Recruitment and selection of student-athletes that can be successful at Tennessee State and on the floor nationally.

Ability to coach and prepare student-athletes to be competitive at the national level.

Values compatible with and supportive of Tennessee State mission as a culturally diverse university.

Proven ability to recruit student-athletes who are successful in the classroom and on the floor.

Willingness to market the program within Tennessee State and Nashville communities, as well as nationally.

Interested in the holistic development of young women.

Proven ability to develop a successful team culture.

Proven ability to develop and teach a system that is successful on the floor.

Ability to recruit, develop, manage, and retain coaching and support staff members.

Willingness and ability to effectively engage alumni and donors within the program and the University.

Desire to be at Tennessee State and buy into the academic and community service at Tennessee State, in addition to the athletics.

Proven track record of compliance with

NCAA

regulations.
