BASIC PURPOSE:  This position serves as the head coach and is responsible for all aspects of instruction along with the development and management of a comprehensive Women’s Club Ice Hockey program as a component of the University experience which enhances and supports the student's liberal arts education in support of the mission of the University.

ACCOUNTABILITES:

 

1. Assists with all phases of the women’s club ice hockey program.

 

1. Directs and coaches the team according to governing body and Assumption University standards, rules and regulations.

 

1. Assists with identifying, evaluating and recruiting potential student-athletes.

 

1. Assists with areas of the sport's budget including equipment purchases, travel costs, recruiting expenses, meal allocations and game day expenses

 

1. Assists in scheduling and conducts regular practice sessions as allowed by University guidelines. Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the preparation of competitions and practices.

 

1. Assists in developing and implementing strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at their best.

 

1. Shall maintain current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.

 

1. Actively participates in department fund raising and public relations events.

 

1. Assists with fundraising initiatives (events, individual outreach) with the Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach and Director of Athletics for enhancing the operating budget.

 

1. Regularly attends selective special University events such as: Student/Athlete Candlelight Service, Hall of Fame Dinner, First-Year Orientation, Student/Athlete Awards Ceremony, University Admissions activities, etc.

 

1. Represents the sport program in the community as appropriate.

 

1. Position requires working weekends and nights.

 

1. Serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery reporting purposes and a Responsible Employee for Title IX reporting purposes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University. 
• Bachelor’s required/Master’s preferred.
• Possess current CPR and First Aid Certification/Automated External Defibrillator
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent communication organizational, managerial and clinical skills

 

SCOPE:

 

• Variable working hours including evenings/weekends and traveling with intercollegiate athletics teams.
• Interacts daily with student/athletes other University administrators, parents and physicians, and other professionals;
• Supervises professional staff and student employees.

Use of a computer keyboard and computer screen for periods of time with close vision and the ability to adjust visual focus plus manual dexterity are required.  May be required to lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
