Head Rodeo Coach

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position oversees all aspects of the Rodeo program at Northeastern State University and is responsible for building and leading a competitive NIRA rodeo program.  This position is classified as a 12-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities. 

MAJOR DUTIES

Provide overall management and leadership of the men's and women's rodeo program by providing quality coaching and instruction to students participating in the program; enforce safety regulations and procedures through supervision of students; 
Plans, directs, and coaches an intercollegiate men's and women's rodeo program; develops student-athletes to their fullest potential while being regionally competitive and ethically run; ensures NIRA rules and regulations compliance; 
Recruits rodeo team members who have the ability to achieve academic and athletic success and assists them in meeting individual and team goals; 
Supervises and coordinates rodeo events and activities, including attending scheduled rodeo practices, classes, and NIRA region rodeos and College National Finals Rodeo; coordinates and ensures rodeo stock and arena are well maintained; 
Provides ongoing oversight of student athletes' conduct both in and out of the arena, including support of the Athletic Code of Conduct; assists with conflict resolution; 
Develops and manages the rodeo program annual budget, monitors expenditures, including allocation of scholarships, completes all documentation requirements, manages the rodeo program financial affairs effectively and innovatively within the constraints of the approved budget; 
Develops fundraising programs in conjunction with the athletic director, development office, and the NSU Foundation to meet program needs, goals, and objectives; 
Works to schedule events, travel, and develop an event management plan for home rodeos; Provides information to the Sports Information Office for press releases, season previews, hometown news articles, and feature stories to various media in compliance with the college's and the NIRA's policies and procedures;
