Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, a DII member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach to assist the head coach in developing, promoting, and supervising all facets of the University’s Women’s Basketball program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensuring that all relevant institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including, but not limited to: player eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling and academic progress.
Assist in the academic advising of the student-athletes associated with the Women’s Basketball program and promoting a positive academic environment to encourage all athletes to strive for academic excellence.
Assist with preparation and execution of practice and game plans; implement strategies which are designed to bring success to the program.
Assist in overseeing skill development drills.
Providing moral support and encouragement while ensuring the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
Establish and maintain community contacts, which enhance the success of the program.
Assist with the purchase, maintenance, and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Assist in directing and managing the recruiting efforts of the program within the financial limits of the Athletic Assistance Grants.
Serve on committees, which promote or pertain to the success of the Women’s Basketball program or SVSU student-athletes.
Assist in monitoring the strength & conditioning programs for student-athletes.
Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the media.
Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes and parents.
Assist in the planning of banquets, fund raising efforts, camps, clinics and other activities which promote the program.
Assist in managing travel arrangements for the team.
Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

General supervision is received from the Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Functional supervision is exercised over student employee(s)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related fields.
Two years of relevant sport coaching or participation experience at the collegiate level or higher.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to project a positive and professional image in pressure situations.
Ability to provide leadership to student-athletes and staff.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a coaching, athletic, competitive indoor environment.
Weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan, except for approved out-of-state travel related to athletic competitions, games, or team activities.
