The John M. Long School of Music seeks an Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music (tenure-track). We seek an outstanding teacher with proven experience and an established track record to direct the renowned “Sound of the South” Marching Band and other athletic bands; to coordinate and collaborate with Troy Athletics; to lead the Basketball Pep Band; to teach in other areas according to candidate expertise and needs of the John M. Long School of Music; and to recruit and retain students at Troy University. Candidates should demonstrate a record of excellence in the following areas: leading secondary school marching bands, collegiate marching bands, or drum corps; designing marching band drills and/or music arranging; artist-level conducting skills appropriate for advanced repertoire; and a commitment to championing the cause of music education. The successful candidate will be characterized by strong administrative abilities, collaborative, and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to a collegial and mutually supportive environment. The start date for the position is July 1, 2024. Review of applications will begin in September. This search will remain open for applications until the position is filled.
