Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) consists of more than 300 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). The Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development is a unit within IA and aims to be a national model of student-athlete development. The Cameron Institute is guided by The California Way framework, which positions student-athletes to perform to their full potential and thrive for a lifetime, and is founded on three critical pillars of development: Career Development, Community Engagement, and Mental Performance & Leadership Development. We are currently seeking a Career Development Advisor who will work within the department's Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development.

Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
The Career Development Advisor will be one of three essential career team specialists, and is primarily responsible for 1) teaching a student-athlete Career Readiness Seminar, 2) leading alumni and employer engagement, and 3) conducting 1:1 career advising. The Career Development Advisor will also connect student-athletes to the services that will help them achieve career-related outcomes and sub-outcomes outlined in The California Way. The Career Development Advisor will be expected to communicate and interface with teams’ coaching staff and student-athletes at a high level. This position will help report on career-related measures and outcomes and leverage the technology implemented by the Cameron Institute to support advising services, such as Teamworks-Retain. The position will report to the Director for Career Development.
Provide programmatic support within the Career Development Pillar, including designing, implementing, and evaluating student-athlete career development programming; teaching for-credit courses, managing a career development platform, and assisting with day-to-day operations for the pillar
Support the development of career services that provide meaningful experiences for student-athletes and coaches
Engage with alumni and employers and connect them to opportunities to support student-athletes with career development
Actively seek and cultivate new relationships to increase the professional network student-athletes have access to
Work directly with student-athletes to advise and develop them using The California Way framework and Cameron Institute services
Meet with student-athletes on a regular basis to manage, check in on, and update their career development plans
Work with Cameron Institute personnel to align and execute on training and advising best practices
If necessary, refer student-athletes to medical professionals for complex issues (e.g., mental health concerns)
Other duties as assigned, including professional development
Required Qualifications
Exceptional organizational skills, project management skills, and time management skills
Experience delivering one-on-one career advising/counseling
Experience designing and delivering career development programming
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present in small and large group settings
Experience engaging with professionals, alumni, and employers to create career development opportunities for students
Strong interpersonal skills, including self-awareness, leadership, and emotional intelligence
Ability to work effectively in teams while also operating independently
Ability to gain knowledge of UC Berkeley policies, processes, and procedures
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training/experience
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Experience advising/counseling student-athletes to reach their full potential
Prior curriculum development and teaching experience
Advanced degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000 - $90,000.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
