Job Summary

The Director of Player Development is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the holistic growth and development of student-athletes within the football program. This position must adhere to all safety standards, ensure the well-being of student-athletes and support their academic success. This pivotal role focuses on nurturing athletic skills, academic achievements, personal growth, and professional preparedness of student-athletes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in administering a highly competitive Division I Football Program
• Develop and implement comprehensive programs aimed at the athletic, academic, and personal development of student-athletes
• Ensure programs support the overall wellbeing of student-athletes and prepare them for success both during and beyond their collegiate sports careers
• Assist in integrating athletic and skill development into broader training programs
• Coordinate with the academic staff to monitor and support the educational progress of student-athletes, ensuring adherence to academic standards and eligibility requirements of the institution and governing bodies
• Serve as a mentor to athletes, providing guidance on career planning, life skills, and personal development
• Organize workshops and seminars on topics such as leadership, financial literacy, mental health, and post-athletic career
• Ensure all player development activities comply with institutional policies and governing body regulations
• Promote a culture of integrity and respect within the football program
• Assist in the recruitment process by highlighting the institution’s commitment to player development
• Participate in discussions with prospective athletes and their families about the benefits of the development programs

• Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, the SWAC and the NCAA with the utmost integrity
• Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, always present the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and AAU coaches, media and general public
• Assist with scheduling of community service events
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s degree Sports Management, Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field
• Two to five years of experience in athletic coaching on the high school or intercollegiate level, working within the department of athletics, player development or academic support for athletes
• Effective written/oral communication
• Ability to work effectively with all collegiate personnel, students, alumni and community
• Sound judgement and maturity
• Must be knowledgeable of NCAA rules and regulations

Preferred: - Master’s degree - Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics
