The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.The Director of Sports Performance plays a significant role in elevating the performance and well-being of WCU’s student-athletes. The Director of Sports Performance is responsible for the leadership, supervision, development, organization and monitoring of all team and individual strength and conditioning programs. Reporting to the Deputy Athletic Director, the Director of Sports Performance will have direct responsibility for football and any other sports as assigned. Candidate must be knowledgeable, motivated and demonstrate a commitment to a safe and disciplined weightlifting, speed and conditioning program. Candidates must also possess strong administrative and communication skills.Content and Areas of Emphasisa) Instruction and supervision of exercise and training techniques, record management, monitoring all sport programs.b) Develop and document specific weight training programs for intercollegiate student-athletes. This includes maintaining records of workouts and conditioning programs.c) Collaborate with sport coaches and other strength staff to optimize student-athlete health, conditioning, wellness, development, and performance.d) Supervise the Athletic Performance staff and oversee maintenance and safety of equipment.e) Coordinate the weight room and staff schedule to provide adequate coverage for all sports teams.f) Integrate injury prevention techniques into programs and work in partnership with the sports medicine staff in rehabilitation and adaptations to weight programs for injured student-athletes.WCU Athletics is in a capital campaign for several facility improvements. During the 2023-24 academic year, the Director of Sports Performance will be heavily involved in the design of a new strength and conditioning facility to serve all WCU teams.
