Job Description

The University of Nevada Athletics Department is recruiting for the position of Graduate Assistant - Sports Nutrition, Nevada Athletics. This position will support the Olympic Sports Nutrition Department. This Graduate Assistant - Sports Nutrition will play a crucial role in assisting with fueling station management, nutrition education, and outreach to student-athletes, coaches, and staff of Nevada Athletics.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the Olympic Nutrition program to support optimal athletic performance.

• Educate student-athletes on optimal nutritional practices for exercise training, competition, recovery, weight management, and hydration.

• Assist in providing personalized meal and snack plans to promote athletic performance and health goals.

• Participate in meal monitoring and nutrition education for student-athlete breakfast.

• Support in the development of menus for teams and execute fueling needs.

• Assist in creating outreach education opportunities such as grocery store tours and cooking classes.

• Support consistent communication with coaching staff, athletic trainers, and other relevant personnel regarding sports nutrition and performance-related issues.

• Assist in making referrals when appropriate and collaborating with allied healthcare providers.

• Contribute to the coordination, development, and oversight of nutrition education materials.

• Manage Olympic Fueling station which includes but is not limited to:

• Assist in managing the annual Olympic nutrition budget in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer.

• Maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Nevada, the Mountain West Conference, and the NCAA.

• Engage in yearly continuing education in the field of sports dietetics.

• Work as part of an interdisciplinary, integrated performance team.

• Assist in creating and maintaining relationships with community organizations and leaders for the benefit of the department.

• Support in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and scheduling undergraduate volunteers.

• Assist in supervising and training student workers, interns, and fellows.

Required Qualifications

• Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

• Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.

• To be eligible for an assistantship, student must be:

• Candidate must have CPR and First Aid certification at hire or within six months of hire

• Candidate must have previous experience working with athletes or in a sports nutrition setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD-eligible preferred

• Strong knowledge of sports nutrition principles and practices

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Willingness to adhere to a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
