Dakota State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head Track/Cross Country Coach to lead the development, administration, and growth of our track and cross country programs. The Head Coach will be responsible for fostering a positive team culture, mentoring student-athletes, and ensuring both academic and athletic success. This is a full-time position that requires effective leadership, dedication to student-athletes’ success, and a strong commitment to achieving competitive excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting Athletes
– Develop and implement strategies for identifying and recruiting talented student-athletes.
Coaching and Practice Management
– Plan and conduct practices and event coaching.
Scholarship Allocation
– Manage scholarship distribution based on program needs and recruit potential student-athletes.
Strategy Development
– Determine the overall strategy for the program, including scholarship allocation, competition scheduling, and the delegation of responsibilities to assistant coaches.
Monitor Academic Progress
– Track academic performance and ensure eligibility requirements are met.
Retention
– Foster an environment conducive to long-term student-athlete success, retention, and graduation.
Budget Management
– Oversee the program’s budget and fundraising efforts.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, with demonstrated success in track and cross country programs
Strong knowledge of
NAIA
regulations and academic eligibility standards.
Proven ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes.
Ability to mentor student-athletes and foster a positive, inclusive team culture.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for competitions and recruitment events.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required by the position.
Must have exemplary ethical conduct and a commitment to follow all applicable
NAIA
and Conference rules and regulations.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive 6% fully matched contributions from
