The Senior Associate Athletic Director/CFO is responsible for the development, oversight, and management of ICA’s financial resources in support of department goals and the student-athlete experience with an annual budget exceeding over $135 million. The CFO serves as the primary advisor to the Director of Athletics with respect to financial operations and strategic planning, and will oversee all matters regarding finance, accounting, budget, purchasing, financial reporting/audits, travel and insurance.
The CFO assists with the development of long- and short- range goals and objectives, and ensures that goals, objectives and policies are in strict adherence to NCAA, Conference, ICA and University of Washington rules and regulations. The CFO reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief Operating Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Annual Athletic Department Budget (30%) –
Develop and communicate budget guidelines which align with department’s long-term financial plan.
Review and summarize budget requests and work with executive team on annual decision making.
Prepare and present all budget materials to the University of Washington’s Board of Regents.
Monitor compliance with established annual budget; actively engage with budget managers on mitigation strategies to offset unfavorable financial results.
Long Range Financial Planning and Management (30%) –
Develop strategies for fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Athletic Department.
Project long-term operating revenues, operating expenses, capital project expenses, debt service payments and fund balances.
Manage and forecast cash flow for current and future years, including planning for reserve requirements related to debt through the University’s Internal Lending Program.
Work with University’s Treasury Office to procure and manage long-term and short-term debt.
Prepare expense and revenue reports, analysis and summaries.
Manage and monitor department’s long-term investments and endowment accounts.
Oversee legal fees or other campus financial agreements or obligations.
State, City, Internal and Financial Audits (10%) –
Coordinate all audits including any audit responses.
Write management discussion and analysis for annual financial audit report.
Oversee testing of transactions and procedures for the NCAA agreed upon procedures report.
Personnel Functions (10%) –
Oversee the Business Office staff of at least seven full-time employees.
Other Financial and Management Responsibilities (10%) –
Complete EADA report (Title IX), Conference and NCAA reports.
Contract compliance, including monitoring payments due from vendors and sending invoices for incentive payments for athletic team performance.
Manage relationship with Department’s travel agency.
Manage relationships with University’s Treasury Office, Financial Management Office Budget Office, Tax Office, and other campus partners.
May direct and supervise other ICA units/personnel as assigned by Director of Athletics.
May direct and supervise the day-to-day administrative operations for assigned sports programs.
Outreach (10%) -
Responsible for periodic reports and presentations to campus constituents, including the Board of Regents, the Office of the President, the Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, Treasury Office, Tyee Executive Committee and Tyee Board, and others as needed.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree and six to eight years of financial management and supervisory experience required to include three to five years of senior level staff or management experience required. Outstanding oral and written communication skills needed; must be able to communicate complex financial concepts clearly. Leader in creating and supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment. Ability and commitment to work effectively with diverse populations of staff, coaches, and students needed. Ability to work some nights and weekends and travel as needed.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA, advanced degree in business, accounting or finance desirable. Experience with Workday Financial system. Experience working in the sports industry (collegiate or professional) and/or higher education preferred.
