Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, a Division II member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the part-time position of Assistant Football Coach/Cornerbacks. This position works 20 hours per week and assists the Head Football Coach and Defensive Staff with the development and execution of the football program, with primary responsibility for coaching the Cornerbacks position group. The Assistant Coach supports practice planning, game preparation, player development, and recruiting efforts, while promoting academic success, personal growth, and NCAA compliance among student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Assists in coaching, teaching, and developing the Cornerbacks position group during practices and games.
Assists in preparing and executing defensive practice plans, game plans, and in-game adjustments as directed by the Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator.
Provides instruction, mentorship, and support to student-athletes, emphasizing safety, sportsmanship, and personal development.
Supports a positive academic environment and encourages student-athletes to strive for academic excellence.
Assists with film breakdown, scouting reports, and opponent analysis.
Participates in recruiting efforts as assigned, including evaluating prospective student-athletes and maintaining appropriate communication within NCAA guidelines.
Assists with off-season and in-season player development activities, as permitted.
Maintains appropriate and professional communication with student-athletes and parents.
Assists with equipment, uniforms, and practice organization as needed.
Supports program activities, including camps, clinics, community engagement, and fundraising events on a limited basis.
Assists with team travel, game-day operations, and administrative duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree
One to two years of football coaching or playing experience at the collegiate level, or relevant coaching experience at the high school level.
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and limited travel
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Collegiate coaching or playing experience, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Experience coaching defensive backs and/or Cornerbacks position
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to teach and develop student-athletes
Interest in recruiting and player evaluation
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed partly in an office environment, not exposed to adverse conditions, and partly outdoors, where there is little protection from the weather.
Some weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan, with the exception of team-related travel that may occur outside the state.
