The Associate Vice-Chancellor for Athletics and Community Engagement at Missouri State University – West Plains serves as the chief administrative officer and is directly responsible for the management and daily operation of the Athletics and Community Engagement division, including, the Aquatics/Wellness Program, Athletic Training Services, University Events at the West Plains Civic Center and intercollegiate athletics. This position works closely with the Executive Director of the West Plains Civic Center (an employee of the City of West Plains) in developing an annual schedule of events and coordinating the delivery of those events and services with other Civic Center operations and events. The Associate Vice-Chancellor for Athletics and Community Engagement works with Program Directors and the Missouri State University – West Plains Administrative Council to develop an annual budget for each program area and assures Directors conduct necessary and thorough planning, budgeting, promotion and execution to achieve successful outcomes for program offerings. In concert with Program Directors, the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Athletics and Community Engagement develops sources of funding support and sponsorship for activities relating to athletics and community engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures that the Athletics and Community Engagement division serves the health and wellness, educational opportunities, academic, and cultural needs of the citizens of West Plains and the Missouri State University-West Plains seven-county service area by formulating operational policies and procedures that support priorities of the campus and of the community of West Plains for the West Plains Civic Center.
Plans, coordinates, and schedules university activities at the West Plains Civic Center as part of the Athletics and Community Engagement division to achieve the maximum utilization of the Civic Center and of the opportunities available.
Working with the West Plains Civic Center Executive Director, develops and coordinates an annual schedule of events for Grizzly athletics, pool, and fitness center, coordinating those activities/programs with other Civic Center operations and events.
Establishes a cooperative relationship between the campus, the West Plains Civic Center, the community and other campus constituencies by serving as liaison for the University, the City of West Plains, and the community with various professional groups, educational departments, and individuals who can contribute to the success of the Civic Center and the Athletics and Community Engagement division.
Manages funds by developing with program directors and the Missouri State University-West Plains Administrative Council an annual budget for each program area, monitoring expenditures for facilities, programs, and personnel, and assuring prompt payments.
Serving as the University’s liaison with the West Plains Civic Center, negotiates the annual lease contract and reports to the West Plains Civic Center Board of Directors all activities of the University, bringing forth any issues for action and clarification by the Board of Directors. Also ensures contracts, leases and MOU’s with external constituencies as they relate to the Athletics and Community Engagement division are developed and maintained.
Works with various other university departments on scheduling their events into the West Plains Civic Center, works closely with the West Plains Civic Center Executive Director to ensure that all events are scheduled and proper set-up requirements are communicated, tracks usage of the center to validate usage and event support charges, and validates all event invoices received from West Plains Civic Center prior to the responsible department processing payment.
Works with University Advancement for Missouri State University-West Plains in the promotion of and development of gift-giving opportunities in support of Athletics and Community Engagement.
Completes special projects in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
Serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Administrative Council, participating fully in all matters and working to conduct the business of the campus and of Missouri State University-West Plains as determined by the Chancellor, the Missouri State University President, and the Missouri State University Board of Governors.
Participates as a fully productive member of the professional staff by adhering to all University policies and procedures and the internal policies and procedures of Missouri State University.
Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development courses.
Contributes to the success of the Athletics and Community Engagement division specifically and of Missouri State University and Missouri State University-West Plains generally by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education
: A bachelor’s degree is required; an emphasis in business management, entertainment management, marketing, or a communications discipline is preferred. Ten or more years’ experience in management will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Experience
: At least three years of professional experience demonstrating a record of success in program development, management and promotion is required. Experience managing an operating budget greater than $10,000 is preferred.
Skills
: Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Organizational skills, particularly in planning, personnel management, and critical thinking are required. Must have strong decision-making skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and to bring many, varied tasks to successful completion under time-constrained deadlines.

: Scope of the job frequently requires attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, performances, lectures, and/or rehearsals.
