Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking to fill a Director of Compliance position.
Description of Position:
The Director of Compliance will assist with developing and implementing the rules education program, provide rules interpretations to coaches and staff, assist with the department’s monitoring efforts, assist with the institution’s Elite Athlete Program, and will serve as a liaison with numerous sports for all compliance matters.

Responsibilities
A. Eligibility
Maintain official team rosters and assist with clearing student-athletes for practice and competition.
Assist with initial eligibility/admissions evaluations.
Assist with prepartion of eligibility waivers (e.g., medical hardships).
Approve student-athlete promotional activities.
B. Financial Aid, Awards and Benefits
Approve awards and team entertainment provided to student-athletes.
Coordinate the student-athlete complimentary admissions program.
Monitor employment of student-athletes and other student-athlete forms.
C. Playing and Practice Seasons and Personnel
Approve time management plans, playing and practice season declarations, countable athletically related activities, outside competitions, summer league participation, team travel.
Approve sport personnel/coaching staff limitations.
D. Recruiting
Approve institutional and noninstutional camps/clinics, including camp promotional materials and employment of student-athletes and coaches.
Approve local sports club involvement of coaching and non-coaching staff.
Approve official & unofficial visits, recruiting contacts/evaluations, etc.
Approve recruiting and scouting services.
E. NCAA and Conference Interpretations and Rules Education
Provide interpretations on NCAA and Conference rules to coaches and staff.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCAA, Conference, and University of California policies, bylaws, interpretations, and case precedent.
Create rules education materials and conduct rules education sessions for coaches, staff, student-athletes, and boosters.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience.
Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices.
Highly developed problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
Effective listening skills.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills.Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications.
Effective customer service skills.
Working knowledge of NCAA Division I and Pac-12 policies, rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a related field.
Experience in Division I Athletics Compliance or equivalent.
Experience with NCAA Compliance Assistant, LSDBi, and RSRO systems, Teamworks, and JumpForward recruiting/compliance system.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is
$70,000 - $80,000
.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
