Student Athlete Academic Services(SAAS)
Responsible for academic advising including NCAA eligibility and advising students.
Responsible for monitoring academic eligibility and progress to provide academic support for assigned student-athletes. Responsible for coordinating and monitoring all processes the advisor does: meeting structure, files, updating forms, campus contacts; Advise student-athletes in terms of course selection and NCAA rules eligibility, certification, and progress towards degree, contribute to NCAA academic waiver process. Report information to the Director of SAAS and Head Coaches of each of the sports they support.
Provides leadership in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for academic and program policies that affect Student-Athlete Academic Services.
Responsible for keeping the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, appropriate Athletics Department staff, and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies informed about current and future needs to adequately provide comprehensive academic advising support programs for student-athletes. Other duties as assigned.
Serve as liaison between Undergraduate Studies, Athletic Department, faculty, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and other Academic Departments. Involved in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes which includes interaction with recruits and their families, coaches, guidance counselors, and alumni. Has occasional contact with the media and officials from the ACC and NCAA.
Supervises full time staff member.
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)
Experience working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.
Experience in presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.
Experience with academic advising/oversight in a secondary or post-secondary setting.
Experience working independently and prioritizing work under deadlines.
Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Ability to supervise staff.
Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Attention to detail and the highest standard of integrity are imperative.
Must have the unique ability to deal with people calmly, confidently and with complete objectivity.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
Master's degree.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
