David Anderton
hired
as
Assistant Coach for
Tennis (W)
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s tennis head coach and director of tennis Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced Thursday the hiring of David Anderton as assistant coach. Anderton joins Miami for his second stint after serving from 2003-07. During his time with the Hurricanes, he was named the 2007 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year after an Elite Eight run. “Dave brings experience, passion and an uncompromising work ethic back to Miami,” said Yaroshuk-Tews. “He played a huge role in some of our most successful seasons and understands the culture very well. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome him back and look forward to what the future holds.” Under Anderton’s assistance, the team reached the NCAA finals in 2006 for the first time since 1985, and qualified for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for three consecutive years. Alongside Yaroshuk-Tews, Anderton coached some of the most successful players in the history of the program including two ITA National Players of the Year Audra Cohen, the 2007 NCAA Singles National Champion, and Megan Bradley, the 2004 ITA National Indoor Champion. Additionally, he helped Audrey Banada to, at the time, hold the most career singles wins and doubles wins at the U. “I’m so happy to be back at the U after a long time, but surprisingly it doesn’t feel that long ago,” said Anderton. “Life feels like it has come full circle and I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to join Paige again who has been a mentor to me and a great friend. I’ve always been passionate about the U and am excited to get going with this new generation of players. I’d like to thank Paige for the opportunity and the support of my wife, Lindsey, and my family.” Prior to joining the Miami staff, Anderton spent two seasons as the women’s assistant coach at the University of Alabama, and also worked as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Western Michigan University from 1998-99. Anderton played tennis for four years at Bowling Green where he was co-captain and earned a degree in Psychology in 1998. The Hurricanes start their 2025 campaign with the Miami Spring Invite, set for Jan. 10-12 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Three highly successful opponents will travel to the 305: NC State, ranked No. 14, and Vanderbilt, ranked No. 21, are coming off Sweet 16 appearances, while Oklahoma will come to Miami ranked No. 16.
