Departmental Overview The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 300 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 900 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). Position Summary Involves planning, scheduling, and coordinating the printed and / or electronic production of books, journals, catalogs, publications, manuscripts, promotional and other materials. Confers with writer/editors, communications design specialists, web programming specialists, project directors, authors and related staff in the preparation of proposed publications; verifies that format of copy conforms to printing and/or electronic publishing specifications. Responsibilities Plans, analyzes, and creates intercollegiate athletics specific visuals (graphics, photography, digital animations, etc.) in support of the operational and strategic aspects of the Football program. Finds the most effective way to get intercollegiate athletics’ messages across in print and electronic media using color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques. Use graphic design mediums to inform, engage and excite prospective Football student-athletes. Work with the Football recruiting staff on the annual development of a content calendar for the recruitment cycle. Assist with development of deadlines and support Football office in meeting all deadlines. Work directly with the Football recruiting staff and Director of Video Production on the graphic design needs for recruitment related activities. Ensures all materials adhere to brand identity and guidelines of Cal Athletics. Ensures accuracy and quality of print publication by working with our preferred printers and other vendors. Other duties as assigned, including professional development. Required Qualifications Time and project management skills to effectively establish priorities and meet competing deadlines. Working knowledge of marketing principles. Thorough knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Strong skills in originating and maintaining databases for desktop publishing and image storage. Strong skills to effectively produce visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the client. Strong skills in interpersonal communications to interact effectively with a variety of clients, support staff and vendors. Strong skills in collaboration to best meet project goals and objectives of clients. Ability to handle small to large multiple projects simultaneously. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
