Departmental Overview The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Position Summary The Associate/Asst Director - Digital Media Platforms supports the department's digital growth by assisting with the transformation of fan data into content that promotes the Cal brand, fan engagement, and revenue goals. Working under the direction of the digital lead, this position helps coordinate a consistent "digital fan journey" across various platforms including the official website, mobile app, YouTube, and social media. The Associate/Asst Director, Digital Media Platforms assists with the execution of digital campaigns aimed at enhancing the program’s reputation for recruiting and fan loyalty. This role collaborates with internal units to ensure digital tools are used effectively and supports the maintenance of external partnership contacts. Additionally, this position assists in supervising student interns and helps deliver training on digital storytelling to ensure a consistent brand voice. Responsibilities Platform Strategy Lead the long-term vision for CalBears.com, the mobile app, and YouTube with the provided vision and strategy. Optimize UI/UX to ensure a seamless "digital fan journey." Work through and lead technical updates and feature rollouts. AI Integration & Efficiency Deploy AI tools to automate content creation scale and distribution. Scale storytelling efforts using generative technology. Use data to predict fan behavior and personalize digital touchpoints. Revenue & Engagement Optimization Design digital paths that lead directly to ticket sales and donations. A/B test website and app layouts to maximize conversion rates. Leverage data to drive sponsorships and digital ad revenue. Digital Storytelling & Brand Affinity Translate athletic achievements into compelling digital narratives. Ensure the "Cal" brand voice remains authentic and consistent across all tech. Use the app and web to build deep emotional loyalty with fans. Technical Collaboration & Training Act as the liaison between the Athletics department and digital vendors. Assists with deploying graphic strategy for platforms. Trains part-time staff and interns on using AI and other digital tools effectively. Ensure all internal units utilize digital tools. Data Transformation & Analytics Turn raw fan data into actionable digital segments. Monitor performance metrics for the website and app. Report on how digital platforms contribute to overall growth and create reports for leadership. Required Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way. Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work. Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs and/or the ability to learn. Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives. Thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications and/or the ability to learn. Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities. Thorough interpersonal communication skills. Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems. Understanding of technical language associated with web applications and AI tools/applications and the requirements with each. Knowledge of integrating disparate digital tools to create a user journey. Understanding of A/B testing and digital sales funnels to assist with maximizing ticket sales. Familiarity with emerging AI tools for content personalization, automated fan engagement, and workflow efficiency. Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener. Experience in coaching and mentoring a student/intern staff. Time and project management skills to effectively establish priorities and meet competing deadlines both for themself and the team. Interpersonal communications and people management skills to interact effectively with a variety of clients, staff and vendors. Ability to plan and adhere to a budget. Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the ACC Conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,000 - $90,000 This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
